To be honest, just one may be too few, but here's what I'm thinking might be a more reasonable flow.
The very first dialogue, about character reset must go. There is no reason to show it any more, except perhaps once to character logging in for the first time after being reset. Certainly not to new players.
The second one about "You are about to connect to dust...". Really? This game only have an online mode, so just by starting the game, you actually agree to this. Remove it.
The EULA, NDA and Patch notes. (I forgot the order these comes in)
The EULA should really only be shown till the player select a check box saying they READ the thing, and therefore do not need it unless it changes.
NDA, well, I'll concede to that, for the beta, as long as the NDA is in effect, this probably have to be displayed. Annoying, but a needed reminder.
Patch notes. Really? We need to see this every time we start the game? No, we don't. First time we log in to a new patch I can accept it, put it under the help section if we need it again.
Intro video. It is about 3 minutes long if I recall. There is no need for it beyond the first time we log in. Put it under "help" if we want to replay it. At least we can bypass this by pressing start but it is still annoying, I have big hands and the start button is...awkward.
Dust logo screen, Press start to log in. Why? Put the sound and animation on the background of the character select, and skip the press start step.
The new Character select brings up a SMALL pop up with the options Select and Delete. This is really not necessary. It should be Press X to select, that's it. Use the usual "menu" button (triangle) to bring up extra options if they are needed. "Show Info", "Redeem Items", "Delete" etc. Put a Redeemable Items icon on the screen if there are any, like in EVE, and use the menu for these. Maybe show the redeem items if new ones have been added since the last login, even then I'd say that is not needed.
Just my thoughts on improving the login process. |
